Default Hello, from St Paul MN

Just got my first PV, It's a 510, the battery is on the charger now.
I smoke 1.5 packs of analogs per day, for 33 years.
I've set a quit day for the analogs of March 8th.
I hope the 510 PV will help me.

I've been vaping for 2 weeks. Started off woth a 2 part system (stand by now) and using the 510. You will be pleased, I mean really pleased. I got the pass thru and that little device is a god send. Outside of my 2 morning analogs, I haven't touched one today. I believe with my Cuban Cigar gogo juice, I won't be requiring my after dinner nor morning analogs.

Welcome to vaping and good luck. In between keystrokes I am puffing away on some RYA4, oooooooh yeah

I just started vaping to beat a smoking ban at work and I liked it so well I haven't smoked since July. And I have been able to reduce to the lowest nic levels and sometimes no nic.I think it should work for you especially if you want to quit as it seems to help those of us who liked smoking and didn't really want to quit but knew we should quit .We are pulling for you we are all in this together.

You're gonna love it. I did 2 packs a day for over 40 years, and never touched another stinkie stick from my first day of vaping.

Part of it is setting your mind to masking it work. The 510 will do the rest. Good luck, and speak up if you need help.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!
I jumped in big time to give this a real shot at working for me. I got two Joye 510 starter sets from two different web shops. So, Now I have 4 X 510's, 2 X AC, one usb, and one car charger. I also bought 20 blank carts and about 200ml assorted juice from a few other web sources.
So far, just three days in, and 0 analog cig's for me! This is just great!!! No #!&^ I do feel better, I can smell thing already, I can breath better, and the crave of the analogs is kind of easy to put off with the 510 PVs at hand.
Now the questions:
Two of the atty's quickly tasted like burning crap! Both are from one of the kits. The two atty's from the other 510 kit hit and taste just GREAT! What is up with that? Should I take this up with the vendor?
Some batteries seem to have much longer legs than others? I wish I marked them from the start, I don't know which kit they came from now.
Vermont Vapor Tobacco is very viscous and doesn't seem to absorb into the carts but it tastes real nice when dripped. What should I do to get this to cart right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
So far I feel any person who would campaign to keep this option out of the hands of analog smokers is close to a murderer. Let's start a list!
Thanks again for all the help!
Later,

Oh, by the way, HALO Smooth8, WOW very nice vape!

Bravo WTG! As long as you have supplies and a stick on hand with a spare bat and spare juice, you will be fine. I'm in my third week, with the vaping and my 4th day with the 510. I have been smoke free since 10am Monday.

My morning session consist of 6-10 hits of RY4 @24mg (tailpiped) with my coffee. It provides my fix and a slight buzz, the remainder of the day I'm at 16-18mgs dependant on which flavour/stick. Whenever I get an urge, I just take a hit or two and put it back in my pocket, or lay the passthru down. I was able to mimick a menthol recipe, and I am sucking on that as I reply here. I wasn't please with stock cart recipes etc... I roll my own and know I know this has and will be my alternate lifestyle

The atty preservative, which is supposed to be PG. Since you have lots, rinse 'em out good with alcohol and blow thru from the batt end into a paper towel, repeat this a couple of times , allow to dry overnight and all should be fine.

When you do get new atty's do above , or: to prime a new atty blow through from the batt end into paper towel, the paper towel is used so you can see the liquid that comes out. When no more liquid comes out, roll a tip and insert into the atty, to remove any remnants (dab around (gently) the bridge) then, drip 2-3 drops on the atty and (tailpipe) it with an empty cart without any batting. Do not enhale this mix, just puff it out and all will be fine. You will be able to detect any foul smell or taste. Once you are satisfied with smell/taste, enhale the vapour. Once happy, remove the empty cart and replace with a full one you are now ready to go.

Reading on the forums etc... it didn't take me long to notice that poly fill as a batting was not going to cut it. So, I precluded any of the nasty side effects of poly fill use in new carts by modding all my cart to the PTB. The flavour is identical to dripping. Some folks have said that they have smoked them dry etc... and at times have burnt/melted the filler material I don't. I know when to top off. Has soon as a detect a loss in vapour production or a slight change in taste, I top off. Usually this requires 5-6 drops sometimes up to 8. As long as the atty remains wet, it will remain cool and wick for you. It is when the atty becomes dry and hot that problems start to occur.

All my attys get blown out at night, a little piece of paper towel loosely placed in the (cart end) and cut flush, and allowed to drain. They are kept separate (so they don't get mixed up). They are place in my charger along with there batteries. A neat and convenient way to do maintenance and re-charge all your batts. I use 3 sticks at a time.

As I am having my morning coffee, I fill my carts and allow to rest while I prime my attys with 1-2 drops of their specific juice. Then I assemble my sticks. Once assembled, take a drag or two just to get them going and you are now set for the day.

The charger.storage assy might seem a bit pricey but it is a neat convenient way to keep things organize, (read attys after an alcohol cleaning), and all my batteries charge at once.

Sounds to me like an improper ratio of PG and VG (heavy on the VG). The PTB will work for you, but if the viscosity is still to great you can cut it with PG or alcohol. Alcohol will increase the TH (Throat hit), while PG will just cut it down a bit. Both methods will reduce the overall nic content, which is really irrelevant if you are vaping 16mgs or better. Remember a little goes along way when modifying juices.

This is why I decided to DIY as I am in this for the long haul, I wanted to do it right. Not only that, since I am using vaping as a smoking cessation alternative, I will be reducing my nicotine intake over time. I have not set a drop dead date for that. Once at 0 nic I plan to quit, mind you I will still have my supplies should I need a psycological fix.

Hi keimei,
I myself personally do not recommend using alcohol or any other cleaning method on a new atty just to get rid of the primer fluid. Simply blow it out by mouth from the atty end should suffice. If you blow from the battery end, you are just pushing this fluid that has drained into the cup back up to the bridge.
Note: Never use compressed air on your attys, especially 510s.
The 510s have some wicking material that goes from the cup to the bridge. Compressed air will remove this wicking material, and though it will still work, it will have a much harder time of wicking up any fluids that have drained in to the cup. Also for this very same reason, it is advisable not to go probing around inside the atty with a rolled up paper towel, Q-tip or any other device.

The burnt taste may or may not be a result of the primer fluid. It could be that these particular attys did not get any primer at all, and your atty has not yet absorbed your juice. After you have tried blowing out the primer, something I rarely do, just lazy in this respect.
Drip 2 to 3 drops directly on the bridge of the atty. Then place a filled cart on it and let it sit standing up for 5 or so minutes, then give it a try. Hopefully the bad taste will be gone after a few puffs.

A lot of people recommend draining your attys at night. I personally do not do this on the 510 manual, which has sealed batteries, so there is no chance of the juice seeping in to the battery and ruining the switch. I feel it is just a waste of perfectly good juice. I myself do as little maintenence as possible, I merely sit mine down when going to bed, and pick up where I left off when I wake up. I have been doing this for a year now, and on the 510 have never had an atty failure.

As with all carts, the filler is not consistant from one to the other. If a cart has too much filler it won't wick, if it has too little it won't hold the juice. I routinely use a fairly thick juice that is at least 60% VG with no wicking problems. The trick here is to make sure their is not too much filler packed in to the cart.
To get your thicker juice to "cart right", try removing a small amount of the filler material. Pull it out with some tweezers or toothpicks, trim a small amount off it from the long sides, then replace with the tweezers or toothpicks. Use them like chop sticks to hold the filler material as you sleeve it back in. Just a little practice and it is easily done. I personally use a syringe to refill my carts with, just as a time saver.
The filler will loose it's wicking ability after a few uses, You can remove it and wash it out with water, then allow to dry and go again, or just replace it with new filler.
Never throw away your used carts. For just a couple of dollars you can buy enough filler material to refill 10,999 carts, give or take a few.
If you buy the standard Polyester fiber fill, make sure it is not the flame retardent type. This type is chemically treated, and you do not want these chemicals.

As far as the legs of your batteries, I assume you are talking about time of use. A lot of us have noticed this, and it is not just with the 510. I have no real answer for this. But to let you know, the 510 is a Porsche when it comes to performance. As a result it has lower resistance and therefore draws more amps than most. Hence a shorter battery charge cycle is something to be expected. I have with some of the standard 510 batteries got no more than 20 to 30 minutes use out of a charge one time then a couple of hours after the next charge. I feel that sometimes the protection circuit module has cut off the charge too soon, or has sensed that the voltage level has dropped to a point of cutoff due to the 510s higher amps, but this is just a guess as to why this occasionally happens.

Welcome to the world of electronic smoking.

Hi

I'm a lurker, but I have to say, I bought the Njoy thought it sucked. Went out and researched what works for hard core smokers and moved to the 510. That was back in November 09. 30 minutes after trying the 510 - I have not bought, touched or even wanted an analog stick. Not once! I smoked a pack and a half daily - non stop, never ever even pretended I could quit in 44 years. Never.

Now here I am, vaping, and totally satisfied. My dogs even love me more, my house is getting cleaned though I do believe I will have to repaint to completely remove the analog stench. Keep in mind, I hadn't smoked in my house for the last 4 years..still it reeked.

this is a good thing. I'm happy

Hi Beetjuice,
to ESF.

Nothing wrong with lurking. But don't be afraid to come on in and make yourself at home, and get to know your fellow e-Smokers.

Glad you like your 510. There are many of us that feel the same way.
I smoked upwards of 2 packs a day for 35 years. Now I cannot stand the smell of the stinkies, and keep my distance from those who still smoke them.
I have had hardcore anti smokers walk in to my house after some heavy vaping, and made comments that it smells good in here, what kind of air freshener is that?

If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask. I always say, the only stupid question, is the one that is never asked.

We are a friendly bunch. If anyone ever gives you a hard time, we'll hold em down for ya.
