Default 2nd round n00b needs advice restarting

So I bought a DSE901 from puresmoker about 2 years ago, along with some of their liquids. Didn't care for it and packed it away. Here I am once again thinking of staving off these crows-feet, and am interested in rebooting this effort.

So..here's what I have:
A working DSE901/pen-style with atomizer and battery
A couple of used/empty cartridges
A couple of full "Camel low" cartridges still in sealed packs (though i can see liquid or condensation on the inside of the packaging -- I did not like this flavor at all.

I'd like this thing to taste like a Camel Light, or something vaguely similar. I don't think I'm interested in smoking cheesecake, though I suppose I shouldn't knock it till I try it.

What of the above should I throw out, and what should I keep? And what do I need to buy in addition to new liquid? And how many of each should I buy?

For liquid, I was going to try this: APV Tobacco Organic . Can anyone offer a review? I don't think they sell cartomizers to fit my model, so I'll have to be exclusively drip, right? Or can I fit something else to the DSE901? I looked at the compatibility chart, but can't make much sense of it.

Thanks!

1. Welcome to our little slice of heaven.
2. Don't throw out anything!! Parts and extra supplies always come in handy in the future. You can even trade for things you need.

I require a strong hit, and good vapor. I get both from my 510 and 4081, although the 4081 is not very popular with folks.

This is my opionion;
The closer an e-cig tastes like tobacco, the easier it is to revert back to ciggies. Use the tobacco flavors in the beginning, but work to find a flavour you like other than the traditional tobacco. I settled on unflavoured with Menthol.

Now, ciggies are gross to me. Tabaccy flavour and smell makes me sick now, and I enjoy vaping 100%.

After a while, consider a mod. They last longer, give a good hit, and distance you even further from tobacco products.

Hello. You will not find anything that tastes like a cigerette, different physics at work. You should be able to find some flavors you like and look forward to.DSE 901's are very good for dripping so you can get some useage from what you have.KR808 cartomisers will fit the 901 batteries and I think will give you a better experience. You will just have to try an assortment of liquids until you find something that suits you.Look for small 3 ml sampler type bottles so you don't end up with a lot of something you don't care for.

Reply: A 901 is not a penstyle a penstyle would be a DSE 801.
Kr808-D1 cartomizers will fit a 901 battery, but not an 801.

A couple of used/empty cartridges
Reply: If these are two years old, Keep the cartridges but replace the filler with some fluval or polyester fiber fill. The juice left in these used carts has most likely gone bad.

Reply: Again keep the carts, even if you don't like the flavor.
The shelf life for most e-liquids is around two years, but no way of knowing how old they were when you got them, plus it depends on how they were stored. If they taste bad, then just remove the filler material and repack them with new. Note: It is best to keep e-liquids stored in a refrigerator to preserve shelf life.

Reply: As mcquinn said, You will not find anything that tastes like a cigarette. But if you give the e-cig a chance and stay with it, you will soon find they taste much better. I predominantly use what is called tobacco flavors, not because they taste like a cigarette, but for me, they are a flavor I can use day in and day out and not get tired of. Which is not unlike when I smoked the same brand of cigarettes for all those years.
For this you may want to try a flavor called Mbro or Marlbro. Of all the flavors named after tobacco products this was my favorite off the shelf juice.
Just keep in mind, vaping is different from smoking. At first it is going to be a lot like when you first started smoking. It takes time to acquire a taste for it, but when you do, conventional cigarettes; aka analogs, will then become stinkies.
Also, keep in mind that different model e-cigs produce differently. For instance I have found the DSE901 and DSE 801 produces much more flavor intensity and the vapor tastes, for lack of a better word, wet.
While models such as the Joye 510 produces a much more subdued flavor, and the vapor tastes dry.

I have been vaping for over 2 and 1/2 years now, all while being completely analog free. During all this time I have searched for the ultimate flavor, one that I will not grow tired of. For me, the ones that fit this bill are the tobacco flavored ones. But these have in no way ever caused me to crave or to even think of picking up an analog. People who do not smoke or even vape tells me all they can smell from my vapor is a scent of caramel and perhaps some vanilla. LOL, I have on several occasions conducted what I called a blind study by blowing a hit of vapor towards some guests in my home while they were not aware of it. The only comments I ever received were "That is a lovely air freshener you are using, what is that".

Like Jim said;
After smoking cigarettes for more than 35 years, I cannot stand to be around or even near any one who is smoking one anymore. To me they stink, and I can smell a smoker from a good distance away. I respect smokers as I was one for so many years, but I have no inclinations of ever taking up that habit again.

Good luck my friend.

You guys are great. I have the 901 mini. The stuff tasted vile 2 years afo, so possibly was already old and funky. So. I'd like to do this properly. I'm a computer geek, but not an electronics geek (i.e., I will never get into mods unless someone gives them to me). Am I more likely to be successful trying to get this 901 to work, or should I buy a 510 or Screwdriver as primary?

And how would I clean and reuse these cartomizers?

And you really found these as satisfying as a smoke? How'd you get yourself over that hurdle exactly?

Your new e-cig tased vile because it was new. Manufacturers use a primer fluid in the atomizers to protect the heating coil for long term storage. I suggest you soak the atty in Everclear for at least 15 minutes. Blow it out, and drop 2 or 3 drops of smoke juice into it, and prest-0-change-0, it don't taste vile anymore.

Don't beleive for a minute that building a mod is difficult. It you can solder a wire, you can build a mod or a passthrough. Check out the instructions inthe ESF Library. You'll be surprised.

Want to try a Screwdriver? Go for it! but first check out the other mods to see what you may like. The DSE905 is a Screwdriver knock-off for around 50 bucks complete. I love my Protege, but it's more expensive. You my want to get a mod with a 510 connector, and buy a 510 to 901 adapter. Then you can use both atomizers on a single mod. Adapters are cheap. Pick up a full set and you can experiment with different atomizers if you'd like.

Cartomizers??? mcquinn will be riding into this corral soon. He's our cartomizer expert.

OK, my 510 is coming today. But meanwhile, I cleaned an old 901 atomizer and dripped some newly arrived vaperite organic vr4 on it. Holy deliciousness, Batman!

Now I want to know what your travel kit looks like. If you're going to be on a plane, then in a hotel room for a few days, what do you bring exactly?

You'll get extremes from a couple of us. A few days in a Hotel is nothing. Some of us spend months on the road.

I carry supplies for my 510 & 4081.

My Protege 510 is carried in an eyeglass case in my shirt pocket. Case contains a spare battery & 10ml bottle of juice.

Spare Protege is in a pen slot in my Computer case.

4 Spare 14500 batteries, 1 - 2 bat charger, 1 single mini back-up charger.

1 4081 Passthrough.

6 spare 4081 attys & carts. 6 spare 510 attys & carts. These are in plastic pill containers from Walgreens, and placed in a long, slim leather container which fits down the side of my computer case.

My carry-on baggie contains 2 30ml bottles of juice, and a large screw top pill bottle of juice. There is also a needleless syringe in my shaving kit for refilling the smaller bottles.

All this stuff fits in a suprisingly small space, and I'm good for well over a month. On top of all that, my tool box contains enough electrical supplies to do any needed repairs in my Hotel room.

Call me crazy, or extreme, but I don't run short.

You're crazy and extreme.

And someday, I'll be like you.

But as I've stated elsewhere, and to stay a little on topic, I'm a huge fan of the lr 510 atty, so if you like some warmth and a cloud, give it a shot.
