For me e-cigs have cost me more than smoking did. Before I quit smoking I was doing RYOs which cost me less than a dollar a pack to make. At $30 per month, I regularly spend more than this on e-cigs. But since they starting taxing bulk tobacco like store bought analogs. If I were to use todays prices in comparison, it would be more equal. Still I would not say I would be saving, maybe, if I didn't always buy more than I need.
Nowadays people who do RYO analogs have found a loophole in these new taxes and have been buying pipe tobacco cut at the older reasonable prices. But have since read that the Federal Government has introduced a bill to tax this type of tobacco cut as well.
For the time being savings can still be had for those who still smoke analogs by buying pipe tobacco cut in bulk.
I just checked with my old tobacco supplier and the price is $48.50 for 3lbs. of tobacco and 6 cartons of tubes. This comes out to 80 cents per pack, not counting shipping cost. it has been my experience that this is actually enough tobacco to make close to 7 cartons of 100s.
From those I know who are or have used this type of pipe cut tobacco, state that the tobacco flavor is much like that of the regular cigarette cut tobacco, but have found that this style of cut makes for a better RYO cigarette. Of course to get started on also has to buy a quality machine, which can be had for about $50.00. With these a pack can be made in about 2 to 3 minutes with just a little practice.
I am not suggesting that people go back to analogs just becuase there is still a way to save money, but for those who can't get off the stinkies, this method may help your pocket book.
