Exclamation e-Cig order Phishing scam alert.

I just got an email from Phil over at e-Smokey Treats.

Phil said that a customer just contacted him and that someone had called them claiming to be from e-smokey Treats, saying that their order had been canceled and wanted their credit card info in order to credit their account. Phil has turned this over to the authorities to investigate.
The number the scammer called from is 323-366-9977. I researched this number and found that it is being used in various other scams. The 323 area code comes from around the Los Angeles Ca. area. In most all likelihood, this number is being spoofed and is not the real number from the actual caller. When I tried to do a reverse lookup it said the prefix does not correspond with the area code.

If you ever get a call, or an email from anyone asking you for pertinent private info of any sort, do not give it to them. Do not trust your caller ID, or any emails for that matter. It is far to easy to spoof the ID and setup fake websites. If you are concerned about what they tell you or say, contact the business or party yourself and by a means you know is legit. Also never click a link in an email you suspect to be a scam. Most businesses, banks etc, that you may have dealt with do not need your info, and will not contact you in this manner.

A little research on the internet can confirm your suspicions.

Thanks for the heads up.

This one sounds like either an inside job, or his accounts may have been hacked. Seems odd that the scammer would have the customers phone # and have it associated with the e-cig order.

No way of telling for sure. If a processor got hacked they would have the credit info already and no reason to try and phish for it. My money is on a Trojan on the reporting victims computer. Or esle they got their email account hacked.

The same holds true for 'free' starter kits. If they're free, why do they ask for a CC#. This comes from someone who made that mistake. TWICE
