Default I'm Stuck...

I am a heavy smoker and I want to stop. I purchased a screwdriver, atomizers, carts, chargers and extra batteries. I have propolyne glycol, vegetable glycerin, distilled water,Totally wicked's patriot range@36mg and their tobacco liquid@24mg. I am well over 200 bucks at this point and really want this to work. I stopped using the device because no matter what I try, I can't get a decent recipe.

I smoke 2 1/2 to 3 packs a day and I roll my own.(no other way to afford it these days) The tobacco is harsh, but it's what I am used to. I won't invest any more money until I find a decent recipe that is not mentholated. I am 51 and have been smoking for almost 40 years. Without purchasing anything else right now, can anyone help?

I started vaping just to beat a ban at my work place ,I intended to smoke in the free world.I was disapointed in that I could never find a liquid that tasted like my favorite smokes.I finally just started vaping the frooty ones and found a few of those that were actually pretty good .I gave up on DIY liquid every time I mixed a batch it tasted good for a little while but I evntually ended up dumping it as it got nastier by the minute store bought liquid is not that expensive as a person most likely use 10 to 20 ml a week that is less than $20.00.I just accepted that vaping was vaping and it would never taste or feel like smoking. It then just became a way to get my nicotine fix and keep my hands busy .In a little less than a year I have been able to lower the nic content to 0 and now I just vape for something to do with my hands.Just hang in there and vape a little and smoke a little most of us do or did eventually you should lose the taste for the burning leaves.

Hi izzy,

Sorry you are having problems finding a decent flavor. I also do not like menthol flavorings. You say you have the TW tobacco and the Patriot range at 36 mg. What flavor of Patriot do you have? The tobacco, though not my favorite does not taste of menthol.

Are you using the 901 atomizers that came with the Screwdriver kit?
If so, this may be where you are getting the bad menthol taste from. I just recently bought this same kit and experienced the same thing. It is caused by the primer liquid that is in these 901 atomizers. Get some 190 proof everclear and soak these atomizers in it for a day or so, then take them out and drain or blow the everclear out of the atomizers by mouth. Then place them in a shot glass filled with some your propylene glycol for an hour or so. After that allow them to drain or just blow the excess Propylene glycol out by mouth like you did with the everclear.

Now try some of your e-liquid in a freshly filled cart. Keep in mind, it will take some use to get them going. At first it won't have any taste or throat hit until your e-liquid wicks in and blends with the Propylene glycol you soaked them in.

Note: The soaking in PG after the everclear bath is optional. Once you have blown out by mouth, all the everclear, you can then just drip a drop or two of e-liquid directly in to the atomzer, pop on a freshly filled cart, let it sit standing up for about five minutes, then start using it. Once it has broken in, it will work fine, and your bad menthol taste should be gone.

I found the easiest and fastest way to get rid of the primer is to blow out that atty then drip a couple of drops of unflavored or PG/VG mix and just keep hitting it without inhaling. After doing this a couple of times usually they are good to go.

I am new here but not new to vaping I have been smoke free for over a year now thanks to ecigs.

Hey Jules, Welcome.

You are correct, and in most cases your recommendations are all that is needed. But I have a feeling izzy is having the same problem I had with the attys that came with the Screwdriver kit that I just got a week or so ago. Both the atomizers in the kit were rancid and with a nausiating menthol aftertaste. I vaped on one for better part of a day trying to get it to clean up, but all it did was make me sick, not from vaping, but from the bad/rancid primer. Believe me, I tried to clean them up with just regular use and it was not happening. It took a good two day soaking to get all that rancid taste out of them.

I have been vaping for more than a year and a half now, and funny thing is, I have only experienced this rancid primer problem twice, and both times it was with a product I purchased from TW.
Also with this screwdriver kit I purchased, I bought a 30ml bottle of TW e-liquid. It has an expiration date of 01/10/2011. This tells me a lot, because a bottle I purchased from TW back in 02/2009 has the same expiration date as this new stuff does. So if this stuff has a two year shelf life, this means this stuff has been in sitting in storage somewhere for a year and a half now.

Wow, that just sounds nasty. I've been vaping since April 2009 and have luckily never come up on anything that bad. I hate that anyone has had to experience something that bad, especially someone new. That would have turned me away from vaping if it had happened to me but then again, I'm a weenie, lol

I just noticed something like that. I was in Wisconsin about a week ago, and running low on juice. I guy I met was using e-cigs, and gave mea small bottle of Awsome Vapor Menthol. It had a urine smell and similar taste.

Ohhh Jim... hope it wasn't!

I have had good luck or... am not very picky. Dekang is OK. I like Rath sometimes. I had to find a place that sold 36 nic. I found a place that would add nic to the Dekang. Not bad.

I have tried a place called Tasty Vapor, fresh made so needed to age a bit. It's good now.

I plan on trying a place called freedomsmokeusa. They sound like they try to make the best juice they possibley can. They use a flavor place in Italy, that gets good reviews around the net, for many of their flavors. I have some question about how much pg/vg to have them mix up. They will do it however you want. Any suggs???

I do mix my juices at home. Just the already made stuff though. Some ended up good but I have no clue what I put in there> :~(
