I have been using exclusively Joye attys for the better part of a year now, and have never had this problem with any Joye product I have purchased. The primers I have been accustomed to are tasteless and odorless.
A couple of days ago I received a Screwdriver from Totally Wicked.
I opened up a sealed DSE901 atty, one that came with the kit, and smelled it. It kind of smelled like some dirty socks liquid I have had in the past. I blew out all the primer that I could, then loaded a cart with some good tasting juice, reprimed the atty with a couple of drops of good liquid and gave it a try. The primer that was left in the atty gave off the most awful taste I could imagine. It had a hint of menthol flavor to it, but was mostly what I would call rancid. Even being masked with good tasting juice, this primer was literally sickening. Trying to vape it out, and not inhale, this stuff made me feel queezie, and nausious.
I finally got it to clear, but not without first making me sick.
It has been close to a year since I picked up a 901, but of all the ones I have had in the past, I do not remember any of them ever tasting like this. The only other time I have experienced this was with a 4081 Super Mini, and it to came from TW.
Has any body else ever experienced this?
I am wondering if it is something that TW is doing, since the only two I ever had taste like this came from TW.
I have 6 more of these same DES901 attys from TW, but I am afraid to go through this again.
Does anybody know of a good simple was to get this yucky tasting primer cleaned out, to a point it doesn't make me sick?
I am thinking of soaking the others in some PG. Any thoughts?
I have since been using an adaptor and am running a Joye 510 on the Screwdriver.

The PG they use as a preservative was expired, and started to break down.
This is not limited to attys, flavours will do the same. You are going to have to trust me on that one, because very few vendors will admit to this.
Shelf life:
VG 18-24 months
PG 24 months
Wrt flavours, that is right from the mfr. the only one that states they have no shelf life is LorAnns which I find hard to believe when most state 18-24 months. This info is availabel from google or the mfrs.

I think it depends on how long they sat in someones inventory.I would clean them first .I have switched to 901's from ElectroNicStix as my main sled and haven't noticed it.
I know that PG has a recommended shelf life of 24 months because it is hygroscopic, as a result it may oxidize if exposed to air/oxygen. But from what I have learned this will cause it to increase in water content, change color and produce an odor (the odor is what the attys have) an become more acidic.
These atty, unlike others I have purchased that came in a box and only had the condom and cap attached. Were sealed in a plastic package. With this plastic package, I would think less of a chance for air to come in contact with the primer to cause rapid oxidation.
I know that UV light also plays an effect on PG.
I just find it hard to believe that this company, with as much as they sell, have a stocked inventory that is more than two years old.
I have a gallon of PG that is stored in the pantry, I have had it for a little over a year now. It is USP grade, and I can't find a manufacturing date or an expiration date on it. It is still just as good as it was the day I bought it. I always use some of it in my mixes. Being stored in the pantry, it is not constantly being subjected to light, and maintains a temperature of about 76 degrees Fahrenheit year round.
I just soaked the two stinky attys in grain alcohol for about 8 hours, now I am letting them soak in some PG.
An interesting find I just had. I just opened up one of the extra 901 attys that came in a five pack from TW, and they have no odor. I popped one on without blowing out the primer and it tastes fine. I did go ahead and blow it out after I guinea pigged myself.
So it looks like it was only the two 901 attys that came with the Screwdriver that had the bad primer.
Now that I think of it, the 4081 attys I had that were like this, also came in starter kits, and were also from TW.
Anyway, on another note, I just ordered Lil Queen an SD. She doesn't like any of my other mods I have, as they to her are not lady like enough for public use. She plans on going completely stinky free at the end of the week, so I am hoping the little extra kick a big battery offers will help her to stay off the analogs for good.
I only ordered the base screwdriver, which is just the SD and an atty for $37.00. I have plenty of the 18350 batteries and attys for it already. I did get an extra 901 to 510 adaptor as she also is more partial to them. I even got her a 5 pack of the Titan platinum attys, just to jazz it up for her a bit with that cute little gold band. I am hoping the looks and feel of the SD will be something that she will like and use.

What you have described above is exactly what happened to me when I used expired PG unknowingly with juice from Levy. So I speak from personal experience. We troubleshot the mix and I mix his juice with straight VG and there was no problem.
Now mind you mine had been expired for some time, nonetheless I carried out research wrt to shelf life etc... to include flavours suspended in it. What really appalled me is that most vendors are unaware of this, or just don't bother saying anything.
The aforementioned scenario is also happening to some folks with liquids, as well as flavourings. Yet, none chose to believe that the culprit could be the base material. That being said, vendors would state what do you expect from juices coming from China.
All in all, you are free to believe whatever you want... but I would seriously take what I am stating under serious advisement.
Oh I belive you Rick. And this is just another reason why I don't trust chinese e-liquids. What mostly had me questioning them, is that the rancid taste also kind of reminded me of TW's tobacco flavored e-liquid.
Not saying TWs tobacco flavor is bad, it just had a taste of that only rancid.
The attys cleaned up nicely after an everclear and then fresh PG bath.

Good the hear Royal, I was able to get rid of the off taste myself with alcohol as well.
BTW I might have used "Chinese" liquids, but... trust me there are other liquids that do not come from China that have what you and I have both tasted. Nuf said...
