BTW I might have used "Chinese" liquids, but... trust me there are other liquids that do not come from China that have what you and I have both tasted. Nuf said...
I have been vaping for going on one and a half years now. During this time, I have only purchased my e-liquids from one of 4 different vendors. Two of which were chinese e-liquids. I have to say, I have never purchased any bad/rancid e-liquid from anyone. The only problems I have ever had was with the atty's primer, and on both occasions being more than a year apart, both of these problems came from the same supplier. The first time I experienced this, I blamed it on the juice, as I had loaded the attys before the rancid taste/odor was noticed. It wasn't until later that I had purchased new different attys from a different supplier, that I realized it wasn't the e-liquid I used, but the primer that was in the attys.
I still have that juice I used when I first experienced this more than a year ago, and it is still good and tasty. I just used some of it yesterday. Keep in mind I keep all my juices stored in the refrigerator. I have a whole shelf in my drink/beer refrigerator dedicated to e-liquids.

... as always Royal I hear you, and in some instances it is not the atty. There have been reports, many of which have been downplayed.
To date you and I have been very fortunate that we have not bought any liquid that has started to/or turned, but some have. Some by their own fault by shopping in the bargain basement. There are also a few unscrupulous vendors that have sold expired product.
You have vaped for a long time so when you stated the primer in your attys was sheet, then it was. Many folks with less exposure to vaping are often dismissed. I do not have your vaping exposure perse, but I can read After having experienced expired PG I now know the signs displayed by "the" expired product. I am not better than anyone else, just that I was fortunate or unfortunate enough to have experienced it early on, on my vaping journey.
I will concede that most of the time the atty is at fault if you are willing to concede that it may not always be the case. How many bottles of liquid do you presently have? How many have an expiration date on them? Expiration date is not used by everyone to include but not limited to US or Canadian vendors, for that matter. I have a Canadian vendor that sells Dekang as made in Canada. I no longer shop there mind you.
I have found in some old attys, after left out unused at room temperature and exposed to air for a long period of time have gone sour. I have either cleaned them as the way I did with these new 901 attys, or I threw them out. Most of the times they were left sitting because they were getting past their prime anyway.
Some juices I have, either have an expiration date of about 2 years, or have a manufacturing date on them. Others like TW do not have either.
I also have some JC smoke juice that does not have this info either, but JC states that all their juices are made fresh to order, unless you are ordering from an affilitiated supplier, then I cannot see how it would be made fresh to order, if they have it already in stock, unless they are drop shipping direct from JC.
I think that juices can be kept much longer than the recommended shelf life of 2 years, providing it is store properly (kept sealed, in the dark and refrigerated)
Heat, sunlight and air is an e-liquid killer.
I don't know what to think of JC anymore. I have always loved the taste of their Tennessee cured. About 6 months back, I started noticing a drop in vapor production from their standard PG based juice. The taste was still the same, I think they switch formulas or something. I then quit using them and finally perfected a DIY flavor that I truely love. I have been using my DIY blend with unflavored nicquid ever since. Saving lots of money too, and my mix seems to vape cleaner than any I have ever bought as well.
Seeing that I was running low of the high octane nicquid, I decided to give JC's Red Oak VG based Tennessee cured a try.
This stuff is way too thin, more like water, the taste is their but it is so thin that it vapes hot even with just a standard e-cig battery. It also does not produce much vapor, hardly any at all until you have taken several good primer puffs. I think it has too much water in the mix, and won't vape until you have steamed most of the water out. I have had to add some VG of my own to the juice to get it to work. But this cuts down the nic level, which was only 18mg to begin with, (their new high strength). And it also cuts the flavor, so I then have to amp up the flavor with my own flavoring. In doing all this, just to make it work, is not worth it.
I am going to give TW one more try with this last order, I am getting a bottle of their 24mg/ml M-bro flavor. I am not fond of their regular tobacco flavor, and IMO, too high a price for their juices.
I will of course be ordering more High Octane shortly. I guess if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.

You are not the only one tjhat is disappointed with the JC line since they switched their recipe. Their Red Oak line has also left many flat. I like the JC Original Tobacco which most hate.
WRT vendor liquids, most as you say are made to order, so you know it is fresh. I also order ahead of time because most liquids need a couple of weeks to mature so to speak. Regardless, I date all the liquids as received and will use them up within 18 months. A 6 month buffer zone is more than sufficient I believe. On the other hand some cannot do this. I canot remember which large vendor provided photos of their storage room. Nice and classy, neat etc... The bins only contained the name of the liquid and strength, and I know back then this vendor's juice did not ahve a mfr date or expiry date on their liquids.

I get my liquid from vendors who turn over a lot of product and so the stock is always fresh. It is almost all from Dekang except Awesome Vapor and I am not sure who makes it.I don't keep more than a couple of months worth on hand since I don't need the nic I am not worried about bans ,I will just quit if I can't get tasty no nic.I have no problem cleaning atties that taste bad either from use or being in storage too long. You cannot hurt them by cleaning them.
Point is, you shouldn't have to clean a brand new unused atty.
I have to take it back when I said the attys cleaned up nicely, I tried one last night and guess what, that rancid taste will still present. Back in to a glass of everclear for yet another day of soaking we shall go.
