Default New Atty Break-in is a Bummer.

What a pain in the butt!!!!!!

After 5 months, my second atty just went cold. I'm sitting here breaking in a new one now. Getting faint tastes of the primer from time to time, but I have to admit, that the vapor production is awsome.

As the attys get old, I didn't realize that the vapor was degrading until I screwed on the new one.

From what I have read in other places some folks toss 'em after two weeks regardless IOT experience your observation. Well you and I, and many others are more frugal than that. Lost my first atty last week (510).

That being said, I still firmly believe that highly concentrated VG liquids lead to pre-mature failures. I am presently vaping some Cash Cap at 3.7V and the atty is barely 2 weeks old and it is tightening up. I also popped 2 801s in 2 days with what I believe was straight VG liquid at 5V. Some will blame the 5V, but other attys from the same batch have lasted longer using Dekang or my own liquids.

Edit: I'm not saying anything here Jim, with the exception of 5 months with an atty is good, damn good.

Rick I am of the same opinion regarding liquids and atty life,As long as I stick to imported liquid I get several months of use from them. The three times I tried domestic liquid I lost a lot of old friends in short order.

Well Mike on some forums folks believe I am cookoo, well I am sort of, but not when it comes to this question.

Many vendors will defend their juices, why not they sell attys as well.

I limit my liquids to 20% VG. I use bases so that 20% is further diluted with either alcohol or flavourings.

But I do like being called cookoo, when vaping from a 10 week + atty, laughing at the guy who doesn't understand why he is popping them in days, and refuse to try a different juice, and is calling me cookoo. That is priceless.

And I'm just the opposite Rick;
I run high concentrations of VG in my mixes. (At least 45 to 50%) I keep a bottle of straight VG with menthol for when I hit the nic too heavy and get woozy.

My first atty was 6 months old and cooking good when I knocked it off the table, and it went cold.

My attys are running on a 5v passthrough, and my passthrough gets heavy use. I run on 3.7 battery about 8 hours a day, and 5 days a week. The rest is on the PT at the computer and in the car.

I'm using 4081 attys on the PT, and 510 on my battery mod.

What flavours are you using Jim, any PGA in those mixes, any H2O or just plain PG? Oh and do you drip or carts?

Only one flavor. Menthol mixed with a spot of Bourbon, added to 36mg juice and 50% VG.

Pretty simple and straight forward formula and it is obviously working.

However as Mike, any deviation towards highly concentrated VG liquids have resulted in a significant decrease in atty longevity.

The older generation seem to basque in the luxury of atty longevity, maybe we are just spoiled, because many report 1-2 weeks tops, and have satisfied themselves that it's the norm whilst we know that not to be true. Hey, when they get 1 month out of an atty they have an orgasm.

However, when deviating from my norm, and simplistic "cleaner" mixes such as yours, I have found atty life decreases proportionally. This is occuring within days of starting with a fresh atty, were the draw becomes tighter. The latter can be associated with liquid viscosity. When you tabulate all the informations from the plaintiffs it becomes very easy to find the common denominator, and no it is not totally related to VG liquids, but VG plays a big part in it, from my experience anyway.

I attribute it more to the flavoring and sweetners in domestic than perhaps the VG/PG ratio. At any rate do what works for you.

True Mike, absolutely true in most cases.

But RY4 in PG and RY4 in VG from the same vendor should render similar results don't you think? The same flavourings are/were used for both. That being said, because VG doesn't carry as well (requires more flavouring for the same results) we could in fact state that heavily laden VG liquids do indeed lead to pre-mature atty failure. But then again this can very well be all conjecture on my part. I've been known to be cookoo LOL.
