Wow, I wish I had taken more chimastry (I can't even spell it!) in college (i can't spell that ether!). Maybe tha Danang stuff is safer for tha atts".??? :~)

I think it may have a lot to do with the Model of attys you use. It seems we can take identical juice and it has a different effect on different attys.
I found my ideal level with high VG, 4081 attys, and 5 volts. Keep in mind, that I bought my 4081 attys over a year ago. The design may have changed since then.

"But then again this can very well be all conjecture on my part. I've been known to be cookoo LOL."two different things going on there.I got some Dekang VG RY4 from WetYourStick and I think it is very similar to PG Dekang RY4 in flavor.I think the higher voltage people can get away with using liquid that ruins my atties because they are incinerating the crud that plugs mine at 3.7 volts.I am trying to quit inhaling smoke and stick to vapor. One of the cool things about vaping is the way we can use the tools to create our own personal little slice .

This could be true Mike. If people are taking really long drags or vaping with normal attys at 6 volts, especially if the atty is not fully saturated.
For me, using 5 volts means I don't have to sit here and huff on this thing to get a hit. What takes me only a second or two at most, others at lower voltage takes two to three times as long. With shorter draw time, I doubt I am reaching any higher temperatures than those who have to take longer draws.
Unlike some, I never get a harshness in my vape at 5 volts, and for me the flavor is enhanced. But I usually always drip at 5 volts even if I have a prefilled cart attached.
6 volts is however too much IMO for the normal atomizer. People have now resorted to using higher resistance attys. I have yet to try one of these, but I may get a couple to try out at 6 volts, just to see if it is tolerable. For this, the only reason I see a use for 6 volts, is to be able to achieve the K.I.S.S. method, that is, without having to use a regulator or a resistor to step down the voltage, instead just increase the atty resistance, keeping it simple.
If one of these HV 510 knockoffs can perform at 6 volts like a Joye 510 at 5 volts, then we will have something.

I am presently using a 5.2 Ohms SLB 801 at 6V on my lizard, niiiiiice. You might want to consider that one Royal. Cool, good TH and no harshness mind you, I'm like you 2-3 sec hits. My dark Vapure mix at 12% surfaced certain nuances and complexities that where not available at 3.7V, heck I didn't even know they existed.
I am presently using a Mako at 3.7 volts with a Joye 510. But I keep sneaking back to 5 volts with a Joye 510 because the flavor is better there. I retired the 6 volt version for now. I may only go back to it if I find a HV atty to my liking.
Penstyles are ok, but I am not that fond of the wet tasting vapor I get with one. Still I use them from time to time, just for a change.

My thinking is ,there are solids getting left behind in my atties at 3.7 volts after the liquid base is vaporised that are not getting left behind in your atties at 5 or 6 volts, that stuff has got to be going somewhere.Have you read about the $300.00 PV?
"Some of the features that will be available, maybe not in the first runs, but the PV has the ability to have code updates installed. If a new feature is designed the code and/or software can be updated.
*Micro processor controlled
*User controlled power setting
*Infinitely adjustable voltage (from standard 3.7v to 6v+)
*Adjustable power curve (max. 10 sequences per drag)
*Customizable power curves (max. 10 sequences per drag)
*Profile sharing (download and install other users profiles)
*Dual battery operation 2 3.7v protected 18350's(features enabled)
*Single battery operation (features disabled, uses 3.7v protected 18650)
*USB pass-through capable (Features and profiles disabled)
*wall pack power Pass-through @8v (features enabled)
*Customizable LED notifications
*Vaping usage log with time and date stamping (coding not complete)

Yes, I heard something about that. No Thanks, I'll pass.
You are mistaken about 5 volts not getting any gunk build up. I get just as much build up at 5 volts as I do with 3.7.
However I can say that I get less of a build up with my DIY mix as I do with any store boughts, at any voltage. I do not like a sweet or strong flavor, so my DIY does not contain as many sugars as most.
The only other observation I can state is, I can take a gunked up atty, that won't produce at 3.7 volts, and still get some production out of it on 5 volts, still it is markedly less than a clean atty.
If someone is taking really long hits, and is not keeping their atty wet, then this will cause some super heating with any voltage. Some stock e-cig batteries have this type of feature built in. Which goes in to a heating/cleaning mode after so many activations.
This cycle lasts about 10 seconds. So it stands to reason you could get this same self cleaning effect on higher voltage in less time, which is something I already touched on. However my draws are relatively short in comparison with what I have to take from 3.7 volts.
I have a drawer full of gunked up attys that were used at 5 volts. One of these days, I will get around to cleaning them. I am just lazy in that respect and find it easier to just pop a new one on. Still it is very cost effective when considering the expense of a new atty vs. analogs.

Well I'm also in the Chinese PG liquid camp for longer atty life. I've tried many high priced American liquids and have not been too impressed.
My main vapes are StrictlyEjuice's Marl/USA mix, DK-Tab, 555, and RY4. I do have some LiquidXpress Honey Flue Cured and Taboo that I sometimes use as flavoring for the Dekang liquid. On their own they are a bit overpowering for me. I do add about 10% glycerin. My first vape of the day is always unflavored. I use my Joye 510's during the day on a 18650, but late at night I prefer the mellower hit my 14500 provides.
