Like tactile switches, most of these touch switches are also not designed to handle much current, and are intended to instead control a relay. They will work, but with the load that we put on them, the question is, how long?
To use an underated switch of any type, if there is room, I would recomend using a relay to handle the current instead of the switch. For this reason among many others, I believe in the K.I.S.S. method. Me personally, I prefer to use a heavy duty mechanical switch that is rated for at least 2 or 3 amps, then not worry about it. Keep it simple.

Thanks. Yeah I have seen that. I ran across a bunch that would work (advertized up to 5 A) but I can't seem to find where to buy 'em from the site, I am more curious than anything else.
