I just got an ego-T as a present. I'm actually still smoking and just testing the e-cigarette and it is a real mess getting the juice into the tank.

Any idea how to avoid that?

I would get some Joye 306 atties and some Boge 510 cartomisers that will fit your Ego and drip with the 306's when practical and use the cartomisers when you are about.The Boge cartomisers are easier to refill,you just pop the rubber plug out and drip the liquid onto the filler,then either put the plug back in or put drip tip in and vape away.I never eally saw an advantage to the tank so I never bought any.Luckily the Ego has the most common connection so you have lots of choices to play with.The cartomisers are about $8.00 for a box of 5 and they last 3 to 6 days .The 306 atties are about $8.00 and you should get several weeks or months of dripping pleasure from one of those.

Are you taking the end cap off the tank before trying to fill it? The tank diameter is big enough so that filling with a dropper should be a no mess no fuss procedure.

The vapor has it's own draw holes seperate from the tank part that holds the juice. The vapor holes come up along the outside of the tank and then enters the whistle tip.

That was one of the things I always wondered about.That and what keeps the whole tank from getting gunked up with the dregs left after vaporisation,as that is what seems to be the death of cartomisers.

OK, here's one more question:

sometimes, after say two or three puffs, the taste is all gone. Haven't found out yet when that happens or maybe it's just my tongue? Or is it just normal?

If it returns after it sets a while I would say you are getting ahead of the wicking action.
