This review is of two different but essentially similar e-cigs from E-VAP.
E-VAP is a small UK business producing "tube mod" style devices at a modest price. The devices have mechanical switches and are heavily built using aluminium. At the moment they come with 901 fittings and take 16340 batteries.
The owner of E-VAP (ref50 on UK Vapers) has considerable experience in making e-cigs having worked for another manufacturer previously. Towards the end of 2010 he send me an early prototype of the "pocket rocket" design for comment/feedback. I duly did this - most of my comments were around suggested improvements to the switch and things like colour options.
In early July 2011 ref50 offered a batch of prototypes for sale at a very low price and also sent me a "revised version" switch for my early version.
So, first up is my original prototype with improved revised switch:
Please remember this IS a prototype so any minor imperfections in finish are to be excused.
Here is the switch ( the black stuff in the inside view is Noalox - I put it on all such threads):
And the inside of the body showing the thickness of the body ( very solid) and the spring at the atomiser end:
Here is the whole thing, fitted with an LR901 atomiser, an Empire Drip Shield and a Super T drip-tip:
So what's it like. Assembled, it feels like it is built like a small brick outhouse... Size wise it is similar to a Screwdriver. The semi recessed switch looks like to would take a lot of abuse. To vape, it is - surprise surprise - just like any other 901 tube mod with a 16340 battery - it's works very well indeed.
Following some discussion on a thread on UK Vapers, ref50 showed a selection of slightly different shape versions in different colours and asked for people's views - the result was a small number of new E-VAP devices offered for sale.
I asked for a "smooth green one with a brass switch please" and was sent this, very generously, as a sample:
Performance wise, it is just like the "rocket" version... Looks really nice though I think? (and is nice to hold)
Overall, these are stunningly solidly built things and should really last...
Ref50 made the prototypes himself but more recent ones have been made to his specifications by a small local UK engineering company. The finish is not "perfect" but they have a genuinely "hand made" feel to them and, at the low prices offered, are, in my opinion, good value for someone wanting a durable but simple mod.
E-VAP e-cigs can be obtained from

Ref50 tells me the E-VAP website is going to be updated in the next couple of weeks with photos of the "rocket" E-VAP (plain and coloured) and the new "Smooth" one (plain and coloured) with prices £18.50 (plain) and £22.50 (coloured). There are a range of colours and options of button type ( eg brass and black plastic) available. These devices are in my view very good value and I wish him luck... I know others on UK Vapers who have bought the devices seem pleased with their purchases.
