As I am nowadays favouring "LR" atomisers, when the "Tank" system was released for the eGo/Tornado e-cigs I held fire waiting for the arrival of low resistance versions. These appeared recently and so I bought a couple of atomisers and a pack of tank cartridges from Totally Wicked.
The atomiser
First, here is a tank atomiser as suplied with its "blank" (no tank) cartridge in place:
The tank atomiser has a 510 threading and the connector is recessed in the same way as on Tornado/eGo "Mega" atomisers and cartomisers:
On removing the blank cartridge the inside of the atomiser, with the "prong" that inserts into tank, can be seen:
The "Tank"
Here is a tank cartridge with its cover in place (useful for carrying full tanks around - don't throw away!):
On removing the cover, the "lid" of the tank can be seen with the (at this stage sealed) central opening which the atomiser "prong" goes into:
To fill the tank, remove the lid:
Here is an end-view of the open tank - show the juice compartment and the airways either side of it:
I filled the tank (just short of the top - about 1ml - following advice I gleaned by a "hifistud" video) and replaced the lid:
(It is worth noting here that, using the same OKS bottle, the tank took about 25 drops of juice compared to the 40+ drops that the 701 carts on my Bulli A2 atomiser take)
I then pressed the cartridge firmly into the atomiser and go out a couple of e-cigs...
For this review, I used the tank with an eGo and - using the bespoke adapter for "Mega" atomisers Garry Dibley made to my specification - my "old faithful" Screwdriver Mk1. You've all seen eGos, so here is a tank on my SD:
(While we are on this image has ANYONE ever seen "platinum" that colour?)
The LR Tank in use
To make my views fair, I filled the tank with some "don't care" juice and puffed away until the atomiser felt "broken in" (didn't take too long) and then blew/cleaned out the tank and refilled it with OKS DF Old Holburn at 30mg.
I've been using the tank for a couple of days and can say with confidence that:
a ) I've had no leaks
b ) it produces very good vapour
What's it like otherwise?
On the SD (with a fresh battery), the hit is good and the draw rather lighter than I like. On the eGo is the hit is reduced (but still good) and the draw similar to the SD.
Compared to an LR901 on the SD (with a fresh battery) the hit is not quite as strong with the tank - but I should stress the hit with the tank IS ok.
This brings me to flavour question - I can't say the tank lacks flavour, because it doesn't - BUT the flavour is different from the LR901 (with the same juice and battery) and it has a slight "oddness" to it, an almost "plastic" note. Not enough to make it "nasty", but just not as nice as the LR901 (or Bulli). Another thing is that, even with a fully charged SD battery, the vapour is a bit "cold" compared to the LR901 (and my Bulli A2)
I've refilled the tank quite a number of times now, and the flavour aspect hasn't changed. However, as a "tank" it has worked well and given me no problems.
My conclusion is a sort of "one thumb up" - it works, the hit is good, as is the vapour production (but not the vapour temperature). I've had no leaking problems and it wicks well. However, whilst it tastes OK, it just does not taste as good as either the LR901 or the Bulli A2 with the same juice and battery. Also I've had to refill it more frequently than I have to top-up the Bulli... I will say that refilling the tank is a doddle though (but so it topping up the carts on the LR901 and Bulli).
So - a decent and convenient atomiser but not one I will adopt...
