My Menthol Nightmare

Howdy Guys;

I've been busy, and haven't been around for a while. I should be around more, since my trips are slowing down. Anyhoo, here's my latest mess.

I buy 100mg unflavored juice. I then melt my menthol crystals in Jim Beam Bourbon, and then add 5 parts VG. This mixture has always been good to me.

I returned home from a 1 month trip to Europe, had 12hours at home, and then headed for Nova Scotia. So needless to say, I was rushed, and I was out of mixed juice. So I mixed a batch.

I was also out of Bourbon, so I mixed my Menthol Crystals in an ounce of Distilled Water. I heated it, and it melted nice, but after it cooled, I had a bottle of water, with a ball of menthol in it. I heated it again, and dumped it in the mix.

My juice is now thick and slimey. The bottle droppers are clogging, and the mixture runs smooth & clear, and then gets thick & lumpy when the tempurature changes.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I'm heading home from Canada tomorrow, and will stop for a bottle of Bourbon on the way home.

Hopefully the Alcohol will straighten my mixture out.

I'm doing OK. The juice is useable, and tastes good, but I have to constantly shake it up,and stir it. I have a stack of toothpicksto unclog the dropper bottles.

It's just a big PITA, and I don't know why the menthol is acting up like it is. It's really weird.

yes it happens when using water for the distillate mixture it is always advisable to have some vodka or the like in it. also use smaller amount of crystals when using plan dis.water. also keep your bottle close to your heart to keepem warm

SOoooo - The water was the problem. THANKS MAGE!!! Something I didn't know. I learned the hard way.

Since I can still use the bad mixture, I'll try to add some alocohol to it, and maybe it will smooth out. Probably worth a try.

I have enough 100mg juice to mix about 8 liters, so I'm not desperate. My wife says to just throw it out, but there's no way I'm going to dump 250ml of mixed juice down the drain.

UPDATE;

I got a bottle of Jim Beam, and added about an ounce to my mixture. Also added another 10ml of 100mg. It's all smoothed out, and the menthol lumps disappeared. I'm good to go.
