Philip Morriss Negotiates with Ruyan

This has been on the back of my mind since I first ever of the e-cigarette.

What many e-cigarette users have feared from day one could be in the works: Philip Morris, the biggest maker of tobacco cigarettes in the United States, has been discovered to be in negotiations with Ruyan Group, which manufactured the original e-cigarette starting in 2005. A short news article on Quamnet.com states the seriousness of the matter:

Now the big question! If Philip Morris buys in to, or buys out Ruyan what do they plan to do with it?
Are they going to continue to manufacture e-cigs, or shut them down?

I am wondering if Philip Morriss knows something the rest of us don't.

Why would they even contemplate buying Ruyan, if it weren't for a certain amount of certainty pertaining to the future of e-cigs, at least here in the U.S. anyway.
If the purpose is to shut them down, then why not just let the FDA do it's thing? Unless????

simple put the fda will stop imports but not sale Phillipp morris will sue the knock off e-cig makers and sell the only usa made and approved device make tons of money hand over fist or simple shut it down and force people back to analogs.

If their plans are to shut them down, then something tells me that they suspect or maybe even have inside knowledge that the FDA does not plan to ban the e-cig.
On the flip side, it makes no sense to lay out billions of dollars for a product that has such an uncertain future. Of course Philip Morriss is world wide, but there are also a lot of countries that have already banned the e-cig.

Maybe Ruyan saw through this and is the reason they stepped away from the bargaining table.

I would guess they are counting on analogs being outlawed or regulated by the FDA and are hedging thier bets.Democrats still have another year of being in majority and president Pelosi is going for all the marbles.

Well, they can't outlaw analogs all together, and analogs are already regulated by the FDA. As in order for the FDA to regulate them, a clause had to be written which in effect says cigarettes are safe. It is for this reason that until now, the FDA was not allowed to regulate tobacco as it goes against the very thing they are supposed to be doing.

I'm still sticking to my original thoughts. Here's how I see it;

1. FDA will gain control, and start taxing e-cig products.
2. Phillip Morris will start producing their own brand of e-cigs.
3. Drug Companies will work with FDA to gain control of the nicotine.
4. These guys are in the money.
5. We lose.
6. E-cigs end up on the black market.
7. I'm still stocking up.
