batteries ,what a pain
I built a couple of box mods and I used AAA boxes.I figured I would get 10440 batteries as I could use them in my trusty Janty KB passthroughs.I go to Madvapes and they were out of chargers so I bought the 10440 protected batteries they had listed the dimesions at 44 mm long in the description.I went to Battery Junction to buy a charger and the one I bought is made by Ultrafire the same company that made the batteries. It all arrived today and I found the batteries were actually 46 mm and did not fit the AAA slot of the charger no problem I put them in the AA slot and jabbed a screw in for a filler ,charged them up and I am vaping away on my mods.I cannot use the batteries in my KB pt's and they were a tight fit in the boxes for the mods but thats life ,I guess.I suppose I could have paid $100.00 and had someone else do all the work and then be mad when the switch fails. Why can't AAA batteries be standardised like they used to be?I understand they have done the same thing to CR123 batteries .
I thought about getting one of those Kensingtons, but not sure it can handle the load of a 510 at 5 volts.
Yes mcquinn, PCM protected version of LI-Ions are a bit longer because the PCB is built in. I think it does state this at Battery Junction.
I think the reason why these Li-Ions are not made to the same size as standard celled batteries, is because they in most cases put out higher voltage. 3 to 5 volts instead of the more common Alkaline batteries which are about 1.5 volts. Electronics are sensitive, if one was to use higher than rated voltage on an electronic device, it could cause damage.
Li-Ions which also have the ability to handle heavier loads and recover more quickly than other battery technologies, makes them ideal for the e-cigarette.
Without the Li-ions, e-cigs would not be what they are today.
New better battery technologies are being developed all the time. Hopefully, with this push to greener (Gore) technology along with the high cost of fuel, we will see a lot more advancements being made in these fields, perhaps to the point that an all electric car can run all day on a single charge.
I would love to own a Tesla, which is an all electric car that rivals or beats most all so called super cars. But it is extremely pricey.
The great thing about electric motors, they produce all thier torque from the very beginning. So right off the line you are producing maximum power. Not so with internal combustion eninges, as torque is built with rpms and peaks within a range of usually mid to high level rpms.
Still I would rather have a hydrogen powered car. One that I could refill the tank from a garden hose would be nice. Todays technology hydrogen fuel celled cars are basically electric cars as well. But instead of using batteries, the hydrogen atoms are converted to electricity to power the car.
Even though Hydrogen technology is at this time best suited as electrical power, I have seen internal combustion powered cars running on nothing but hydrogen, and the only exhaust eminating from it's tailpipe is water.
Many home experimenters have been playing around with HHO which is converted from water by use of electrolysis as a fuel supplement in order to attempt to increase fuel mileage. If you are interested in seeing how this is being done just search youtube for HHO.

I emailed MadVapes and he admitted he did not change the product description when they switched to protected batteries.I knew protected batteries were usually longer to allow for the circut board but I thought since they had the dimensions listed they might be different.I vaped all day on my two cell 3.7 volt mod I normally would have had to charge three 801 batteries for the same amount of vaping and it was still going .I am charging them for use tommorow.I have used my Kissbox passthrough as a mod of sorts but find the wire dangling to be a pain.I figured for less than $15.00 including four batteries a charger and parts for two mods I couldn't go wrong. As far as electric cars I am still waiting for people to see what happens when you wreck one and that much energy is released at once.Hydrogen I don't believe will cost effective in our lifetimes kinda like solar and wind are not really cost effective for the average person.I have a friend who found out the hard way that it costs $8,000.00 to rebattery a Prius.Add the extra cost of the car to start with and you could have bought a lot of gas or ethanol.
I thought about the Kensington too, but I'm happy with my battery mod and PT for travel. The Kensington would be just one more thing I'd have to carry and charge.
Hey Mike, you are so right about electric/hybrid cars not being cost effective. With what little increase in mileage you get is offest by the higher initial purchase price, which is usually a markup of 4 to 5 grand over conventional models. And the potential repair costs would take too mamy years to make up the difference.
Last time we went car shopping, a salesman tried to pressure a hybrid sale. I told him they weren't cost effective, and gave him my perspective on it. His reply was, yeah, but think about global warming and how much better the planet would be by going green. I said the only thing that will go green will by the pile of cash you are asking for.
No thanks, now show me your biggest 4x4 SUVs. LOL.

Well too late now but this charger covers almost all 3.7V batts.
Wish I had been by before, I just noticed you had asked for battery/charger advice.

I would say they are. Nowhere will you see AAA or AA stamped on 3.7V Li-ions, because they aren't. The Standards for AA and AAA state them to be 1.5V and 1.25V for rechargeables and of a specific size. The Li-ion folks just call them AAA or AA when in fact they aren't.

When I was in Canada a couple weeks ago, they gave me a Camary Hybrid. That little suckaa got me over 500 miles on a tank of gas. I didn't figure out the MPG, but it was impressive.

Not too late for the charger I am not opposed to having one for work.thanx I will check them out.I guess what bothers me most about the batteries is people don't know what they are selling.Janty has it listed that the 10440's they sell are protected and if they are now, they won't fit products they have sold in the past as the protected ones don't fit my PT's.Now I need to decide if I want to stay exclusive with the 10440's or go for AA size cells and build some more mods.
mcquinn, if you are talking about the inline batteries on the PTs. I think the PCM (Protection Circuit Module) is seperate and is mounted on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). The batteries themselves may not have built in PCM but the connections do.
I may be wrong, I haven't opened one of these up in a long time.
