To me the continuing FDA battle is much more threatening. Additionally, I find it highly suspect that the state bills in NY, MD, IL and CA all have very similar language that bans electronic cigarettes. Fortunately the MD bill died in committee although I think they still have another one that would prohibit indoor vaping. CA's bill is being amended to only prohibit sales to minors -- which is fine with me. Not sure of the status of NY's bill. IL's bill, already passed in the IL Senate, was read in the House Health Committee yesterday and fortunately many of our Illinois vapers attended to voice their disapproval. The House committee recessed until next week to gather more facts. So next week is the next big battle to keep our rights. Go Illinois vapers!!

It is my gut feeling that Big Pharma is behind these state bills and tried to pull a fast one to protect their useless NRT products and profits. While they do have the money and the influence, I think it will be very difficult to do this on a national scale via the legislature (hence getting that amendment will not be easy). But Big Pharma is using the FDA to protect their interests on a national scale and with the FDA's policy of expanding their fiefdom without limits, it's a serious concern.
All one needs to do is follow the money.

... and BTW the Canadian version of the Patriot Act is buried so deep in legislature, it will never find its way to the surface again, until it is sited in a court of law. So I really don't see the PACT Act as being a docile document. It is what is not written (or read between the lines) that is dangerous. The same goes with the wording of some of these State Bills, mind you on the QT, in a mad rush to get legislation passed, they leave themselves open. I can guarantee you in all honesty, without a shadow of a doubt, that many loop holes will be closed, the second time around.

Another good example of this, is the health care plan which is apparently worst now than the first one, for people that is.
