It wouldn't be that hard to do, You would need something to use for making the winding. A flyfishing fly tying jig might work for this purpose. I am going to look in to this next time I go to Cabelas.
I keep looking in the recycle bins at work for scrapped out nichrome in larger diameters than .0031", but the larger stuff never gets scrapped as it is easier to work with.
Still I suppose the .0031" stuff would work, by just twisting two threads together like a rope. It would be worth a try anyway.
